Mission
Founded in 1931, the mission of The Akron Society of Artists is to advance the
skill, knowledge and appreciation of art among its members and the general public;
to encourage the advancement and understanding of art in the community, and to
afford financial assistance and encouragement to worthy art students.

Join an Artistic Community
From beginner to professional, members of Akron Society of Artists range in skill,
age and preferred art medium. But all have the opportunity to grow and connect
with other artists through a variety of arts-related activities.

ASA hosts regular programs on Wednesday evenings from September through
May. These include member critiques, guest artist talks and demos, art history
programs and more. On Friday mornings, artists gather to draw and paint from a
clothed model – a practice that has been part of the group’s programming for decades.

And for those who enjoy painting and drawing outdoors, our plein air group meets
weekly at different locations in the Akron area, Tuesday mornings from April to October.

Our home base is Mustard Seed Market in Highland Square. Wednesday night
programs and Friday morning sessions are held in the Community Room
(2 nd floor), 867 W. Market St., Akron.

Take your Art Further
ASA members can share their work with a wider audience with exhibition and
programming opportunities. Our Member Directory provides links to members’
websites. ASA’s Facebook and Instagram pages create a broad social media
platform where members can post their work as well as find information about
upcoming exhibits and opportunities.

We are committed to the next generation of artists. Our scholarship committee
presents an award every year to a high school student showing excellence in art.
We also offer discounted memberships to students and young adults.
Whether you’re an emerging artist or established professional, ASA provides the
resources, inspiration, and artistic community to help you grow.
