What’s Happening
Wednesday Evening Programs
From September to May, Akron Society of Artists presents a broad range of
Wednesday evening programs for growth, enrichment and fun. These typically run
from 7-9pm. Programs are varied and may include guest artist demos and talks, art
history sessions and show-and-tell programs where members can share different
directions or techniques.
Monthly critique sessions have long been a staple of ASA’s programming. Guest
moderators lead these programs which offer members a chance to get constructive
feedback on artwork and a chance to see what other members are doing – both
great tools for creative growth.
For a current list of programs, visit our calendar here.
Friday Morning Figure/Portrait Sessions
Working from the model is a time-honored method for building skills. Members
and non-members can draw and paint from the clothed model from 10am-1pm on
Friday mornings. A moderator sets up the model and keeps track of the session –
it’s a great opportunity to hone your skills with like-minded artists! Cost is $8 for
members and $10 for non-members. Sessions run year round with the month of
July off.
All programs take place in the Community Room, 2 nd Floor, at Mustard Seed
Market.
Plein Air Painting Group
Lose yourself in nature with the art of plein air painting, French for “in the open
air.” Artists work outdoors to capture the scene in paints, pastels and pencils.
ASA’s plein air group meets on Tuesday mornings at various locations in the
Akron area from April to October. Regular weekly emails and Facebook posts give
details on each week’s new location. There is no cost to participate.
